our story
The Michael T. Lyons Foundation was created to honor the life and legacy of Michael Lyons, whose passion for sports, mentorship, and community left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
From youth athletics to high school competition and college football, sports played a defining role in Michael's life. They taught him discipline, teamwork, resilience, and leadership, values he carried with him long after his playing days ended.
His love for athletics eventually led him to coaching as the JV basketball coach at St. Paul VI Catholic High School. For Michael, coaching was never just about the game. It was about helping young people build confidence, develop character, and recognize their potential both on and off the court.
At just 28 years old, Michael passed away after a short battle with cancer. While his life was cut far too short, the impact he made on his family, friends, players, and community continues to be felt today.
The foundation was established to carry forward the values Michael lived every day: leadership, perseverance, service, and a commitment to helping others succeed. Through scholarships, mentorship, community partnerships, and youth programs, we strive to create opportunities that empower young people to learn, grow, and reach their full potential.
